Beginning Sunday, June 19th through Sunday, July 31st we will be collecting food items for the Somerset County Food Bank.
We are also hopeful that casseroles can be delivered to SHIP during July. More to follow on that!
Finally, we recently learned that the food bank receives eggs from a local farmer but they are delivered in crates. The eggs are then transferred to old, used cartons. Sometimes the cartons are used multiple times. So Outreach is asking that you save your egg cartons and bring them to Church. We will continually take what is donated to the food bank.
May is the month St. Martin’s helps the Somerset County Food Bank distribute food in Somerville. This Saturday, May 14th, volunteers will be meeting at 8:25 at Shiloh Pentecostal Church on Davenport Street. Beginning Saturday, May 21st, the location will change to First Reformed Church at 100 W. Main Street in Somerville. Volunteers are still needed for May 28th.
There is a signup sheet on the Bulletin Board in the Narthex. You may also call Marlene at 908-507-7406 or email her at mficzko@optonline.net if you wish to volunteer. Based on our experience last summer, we believe we will need about 4 volunteers each Saturday.
St. Martin’s Outreach Committee had determined earlier this year to do a shoe collection to aid Soles4Souls. However, due to the Bishop’s request that we participate in this Global Ministry, Outreach has decided to collect new and used shoes from now until June 19th for this Ministry.
Shoes, of all sizes, male and female, are one of the requested items by the Global Ministry. They can be dress or casual, flip-flops, tennis shoes, etc. In addition, they are collecting new socks. If shoes have laces, please tie the pair together with the laces. If there are buckles, please buckle the two shoes together. All other pairs can be placed in bags (1, 2, or 3 pairs per bag). There is a bin at the back of the narthex.
If you have many pairs, please contact Kathy Shanklin or Marlene Ficzko and they will make arrangements to pick up your shoes.
Outreach will continue to collect Easter basket goodies until Sunday, April 3rd. We are in need of baskets, individually wrapped candies, grass, and small toys/books/gifts. We have an abundance of plastic eggs. The children in the school will be assisting us with baskets for children up to age 6. We will be assembling baskets for children ages 7 to 12 so please provide age-appropriate gifts/toys for children 7 – 12.
In addition to collecting items in the narthex, we will be doing a collection in the church parking lot on Sunday, March 27th from 11:30 to 1:30.
